ColourVIEW - SuperCROSS

ColourVIEW uses colour to highlight potential relationships between table variables and help you identify ranges and patterns. This can provide an easier way of interpreting table results and help you understand their significance. It can be particularly useful for larger and more complex tables where the relationships may not be obvious.

Activating ColourVIEW gives your table three configurable "layers":

  • Cell Values
  • Cell Background Colour
  • Cell Value Colour

You can:

  • show or hide each layer
  • change what each layer represents

To activate ColourVIEW:

  1. Create a table.
  2. Select Cross > ColourVIEW or click the ColourVIEW icon:

    The ColourVIEW dialog displays:

Understanding the ColourVIEW Dialog

The ColourVIEW dialog has three layer buttons, representing the three ColourVIEW layers. Click the layer buttons to show or hide that layer.

The first layer button represents the cell values.

In this example the cell values show the standard cross tabulation results. The results are visible in the table:

The second button represents the cell background colour.

In this example it is configured to show a relationship analysis, but is not currently visible:

The third button represents the cell value colour.

In this example it is configured to show the confidence level, but this layer is not currently visible:

The Presentation Styles section allows you to save and re-load ColourVIEW settings.

  • To save the current ColourVIEW settings, click Save. You will be prompted to enter a Style Name.
  • To load some previously saved settings, simply select them from the drop-down list.
  • To delete some previously saved settings, select them from the list and click Delete.

Limitations of ColourVIEW

  • ColourVIEW will not be available if the table contains any of the following:
    • recode totals
    • derivations
    • concatenated fields
    • grand totals
    • summation fields
  • After you activate ColourVIEW:
    • If you add multiple summation fields to the table, ColourVIEW will be automatically disabled.
    • If you add a single recode of a summation field to the table, ColourVIEW will remain enabled, but there must only be one summation option in the recode, otherwise ColourVIEW will be disabled.
  • The Grand Total option is not available when ColourVIEW is enabled.

What Can Each Layer Show?

Each of the three ColourVIEW layers can be configured to represent any of the following.

OptionDescription
Cross-tabulationStandard cross tabulation results.
Relationship

A relationship analysis:

  • An interactive ratio equal to 1 indicates expected or statistically probable values, suggesting no relationship.
  • An interactive ratio greater than 1 indicates a stronger than expected relationship.
  • An interactive ratio less than 1 indicates a weaker than expected/negative relationship.
Confidence Level

The level of confidence that can be placed in the statistically calculated Relationship Ratios, calculated using the Chi Squared method for tables. The confidence level is expressed as a percent reliability.

% of Total DataCell values are expressed as a percentage of the population total.
% of Column TotalCell values are expressed as a percentage of the column total.
% of Row TotalCell values are expressed as a percentage of the row total.
% of Wafer TotalCell values are expressed as a percentage of the wafer total.

Configure the Cell Values

By default the cell values are displayed and represent the cross tabulation results.

To change this:

  1. Click

    The Data Settings dialog displays.
  2. Change the settings as appropriate:

    SettingDescription
Base OnWhat the cell values represent (see the table above for an explanation of what each option means).
No Data Display StringThe string to display when there is no data or zero data.
Cross-tabulationThe number of decimal places to display in the cross tabulation results.
OthersThe number of decimal places to use for other values in the cell data.
Use As DefaultSaves the settings as the defaults for the next time you use SuperCROSS.
  3. Click OK to save your settings.

Configure the Cell Background Colour

To change what the cell background colours represent:

  1. Click

    The ColourVIEW Settings dialog displays.
  2. Change the settings as appropriate:

    SettingDescription
    Base On

What the background colours represent (see the table above or the Description field for an explanation of what each option means).

    Division

Determines the number of divisions (different colours) to use.

For example if you set No. Divisions to 5 there will be 5 different background colours.

For most calculation types you can also choose either Equal Division (automatically divide up the ranges into equal parts) or User Division, which allows you to specify the individual ranges that each colour represents.

    Operations

Click Blend to automatically change the colours to a range that blends from the first colour to the last colour.

Click Random to change the colours to a random selection.

    Data Division

    Use this section to:

    • Manually set the labels for the ranges (these labels appear in the ColourVIEW dialog).
    • Manually set the individual colours.
    • Manually specify the ranges (only available if Type is set to User Division).
  3. Click OK to save your settings.

Configure the Cell Value Colour

To change what the cell value colours represent:

  1. Click

    The Reliability Settings dialog displays.
  2. Change the settings as appropriate:

    SettingDescription
Base OnWhat the cell values represent (see the table above or the Description field for an explanation of what each option means). Typically you will want to select Confidence Level.
    Confidence Level

Sets the data confidence level based on the Chi Squared method for tables. An indicator of confidence in the statistically derived relationships (interaction ratios) is calculated using the Chi Squared table method. The confidence level is expressed as a reliability percentage.

Select one of the percentages to specify the level of confidence you want to highlight in the table.

If required, click the colour icon to change the display colour.

  3. Click OK to save your settings.
