hierarchy

A hierarchy presents classification information in a graded order.

For example:

  • A suburb is a part of a city.

  • A city is part of a state or region.

  • A region is part of a country.

In this example the layers in the hierarchy are:

  • Country

  • State/Region

  • City

  • Suburb
