Create a Group using the Map - SuperWEB2

If your data includes geographic fields, you can create groups using the map. For example, you can use the map to create a group for the Area field in the sample Retail Banking database:

  1. Select the My Custom Data tab.
  2. Click Use Map to Group Items.
  3. In the Map layer drop-down list, select the level you want to create the group from. The options here will depend on the hierarchical levels available in the geographic field. In the case of the sample Area field, there are values available at the State level, State Division level, State Sub-Division level and Postal Area level:

The map updates to show the level of detail you selected.
  4. Select the areas on the map that you want to group. You can add up to 2,000 individual areas to a group.

There are a number of tools provided with the map to help you select the areas you want:

    ToolIconDescription
    Zoom In
Click the icon and then click somewhere on the map to zoom in.
    Zoom Out
Click the icon and then click somewhere on the map to zoom out.
    Zoom to Maximum Extent
Click the icon to zoom out of the map as far as possible.
    Select Area Tool

Click the icon and then draw a rectangle on the map.

All the items underneath the rectangle will be added to the current selection.

The selected items will be taken from the level you chose from the drop-down list. So for example if you chose State Divisions, and then you draw a rectangle around the entire state of Victoria, this will select all the state divisions in Victoria.

    Deselect Area Tool

Click the icon and then draw a rectangle on the map.

All the items underneath the rectangle will be removed from the current selection.

    Select Single Area

Click the icon and then click an area on the map.

This will clear an existing selection from the map and select just the clicked area.

    Pan Tool
Click the icon and then click and drag the map to pan around the available map.
    Radial Select Tool
    1. Click the icon.
    2. Click a point on the map.
    3. In the Radius field, enter a size for the radius in kilometres.
    4. Click either Select or Deselect.

All areas within the specified radius of the clicked point will be either selected or deselected.

  5. When you have finished selecting all the areas you want on the map, click >>> to add the selected areas to the list in the middle.

If you find you have added any areas you do not want, select the check box next to the area and click <<< to remove it from the list.

  6. When you are ready to create the group, enter a name (must be unique and less than 255 characters long) and click Save Group.
  7. SuperWEB2 adds the group to the list on the right and you can now include this in your tables.
